I'm not sure what to put in my first blog or if anyone will even read this.  I’m terrible at blogging because I only know how to write long, exhaustive reports about experiments, so try not to get too bored.  Anyway, my last competition was in early February and the Clansmen International tournament was a good way to get me back on track.  I got down to weight easily which was surprising.  I was also a bit more nervous than usual, but after wrestling a couple matches my nerves finally settled down.  In summary I didn’t give up any points, lose any periods and I received 300$ for 1st place.  The trip was capped off with a redeye flight from Vancouver to Syracuse followed by a 1AM drive to Ithaca.  My next tournament, the NYAC open, is coming up quick and should be a difficult tournament with the US wrestlers plus the #1 Russian team members competing.

      Congrats on your success.
Your report kept us up to date with your schedule. How many matches did you have, were there some tough ones? When you've recovered you could fill in more details of the event and your experience there together with build up to next event. The more regular your blogs the more people will engage.

I had four matches total, but none were really that close.  I won all of my matches in the first two periods and didn't have to go to a clinch.  The tournament seemed to have a lot of the younger wrestlers from Canada at 60kg.  Since World Champions wasn't too long ago, it’s possible that some of the guys are still taking time off.  I think this tournament was most important for me in terms of being able to get some match experience.  It was also important to put my self in the type of wrestling environment that cannot be produced in the practice room.  I presume I’ll have many tough matches at the NYAC in a week.  I'm looking forward to it because these are matches I need in order to develop and become a better wrestler.

Good luck for NYAC this week. Who do you expect to face there as your main challengers? After such a long break how do you prepare for the big matches besides last week's Canada event? Despite your 'big' cash prize there, it must have cost a lot just for the travel alone - do the costs get covered by the sponsorship you raise for your training etc. or are you always way out of pocket? Here in the uk there is much less support from most colleges and from business sponsors, particularly for such a sport that is very limited in media appeal. Hope your preparations go well and end up with another win that you can tell us about in the blog!

      Travis-

I think your personal web site is a great place to be a little "wordy", especially since it is yours and those of us who access it are interested in how you did. Congratulations-sounds like you had a great tournament. Maybe the prospect of a cash prize nade you extra nervous...? Good luck and stay healthy!

I'm not sure if the cash prize made me nervous, but it was definitely a plus.  I was most nervous because I didn't wrestle since the Schultz in early Feb.   I will definitely need to focus on staying healthy this year.   Thanks!

best of luck in this weekend's tournament. I hope not having to travel too far works to your advantage. It's really great that a "local boy" is doing so well on the international wrestling stage. All of the former wrestlers from Hawai'i that I know are very impressed and proud of you!
